Hello, I’m Sandy. I’m five. I’m an English girl. I can skate very well. This is Amy. We are twins. She’s tall. She can’t skate, but she can swim well. She has a parrot. It can talk. It can sing too.   This is my brother Peter. He’s ten. He can play football. He has a toy car. It’s blue.

My name is Bob. I’m ten years old. I have short hair. My father is John. He is tall. He has short hair, too. He works in a computer company(公司). He works far away from home. He usually goes to work by bus. My mother is Merry. She has long hair. She works in a supermarket. She goes to work by bike. I love my parents. On Sundays, I usually go to the park with my family.

An old lady and her cat

Mrs Black is an old lady. She lives with a cat. The cat is old, too. This morning, it sees a big mouse. It catches the mouse. Mrs Black sees this cat. She is very happy.

But the mouse is very strong and it gets out of (摆脱) the cat’s paws (爪子). Then Mrs Black feels very angry. She speaks to the cat loudly (大声地). The cat is very sad. It says, “Please be kind (仁慈的) to me. When I was young, I gave you much help.”

Jack

Jack was a famous American writer. He was born (出生于) on January 12th, 1876, in San Francisco, California. His family was very poor, and Jack had to leave school to make money. He worked hard in many different jobs.

Later, Jack came back to school, but he didn’t stay the school long. In 1897, he went to Alaska to find gold. He found ideas there for his books and stories.

He came back home and started to write. His writings were successful (成功的), and he became rich and famous when he was over twenty.

Jack was not a happy man. He was in poor health.

Look at the blue Earth. This is our home. There are plains(平原), mountains, rivers,   lakes and oceans in our home. There are many kinds of trees, flowers, sand and grass in our home. There are many kinds of wild animals living together with us. But sometimes we do so many bad things to it. We waste too much water. We cut down too many trees. We hunt(捕猎) too many wild animals for food or clothes. We waste too many energy(能源). Too many cars use a lot of energy. We use too many plastic bags. We shouldn’t do these things. We should save our Earth, because we have only one Earth.

It was John’s birthday yesterday. He was eight years old. He got many birthday gifts from his family and one of the gifts was a nice big drum (鼓). “Who gave him that drum?” his father asked, “His grandfather”. answered John’s mother.

John liked his drum very much. He made very loud noises (噪音) with it. His mother didn’t say anything about it. His father was not at home. He worked m a hospital in a village. So he didn’t hear the noise. But one of the neighbors (邻居) Mrs Ted. didn’t like the noise. So Mrs Ted took a sharp knife (刀) and ran to John’s room. John was playing the drum happily. Mrs Ted said to him. “Hello. John. Do you know there is something very nice in your drum? Here’s a knife. Open the drum and let’s find it.” “Really? Let me try.” John said.

My uncle lives in a village. But he works in the big city. He goes to work by train every morning and comes home in the same way. This morning when he is reading his newspaper on the train, a man behind him says “hello” to him and begins to talk to him. “Your life isn’t interesting, is it? You take the same train every morning, and you always sit in the same seat and read the same newspaper.”
