Hello, boys and girls. My name is Amy. I’m 12. This is my classroom. It’s clean and big. You can see a big board, six fans, a computer and eight lights. And there are 48 desks and chairs in the classroom.

New York, Paris, Hong Kong and other big cities are good places. There are many funny things to do. People can go to different kinds of restaurants, watch all films and plays and go shopping everywhere.

But there are bad things in big cities. It is expensive to live there. Every year many people move to the big cities to find jobs, study at good schools and receive good medical care. But sometimes they cannot find a job or a good place to live in. Also, too many people in a small place make it hard to keep the cities safe and clean.

Some people enjoy living in big cities; others do not. Before moving to a big city, they should think about the problems of living there.

It is a rainy day. A train stops at a station. A young man doesn’t have an umbrella and he is hungry. He sees a boy standing under a big umbrella. The young man says to the boy. “Can you buy two hamburgers, one for you and one for me? Here are two dollars.” “Great!” says the boy. Then he goes to buy the hamburgers. After some time, the boy comes back. He is having a hamburger. “Where is my hamburger?” asks the young man. “Oh, there is only one hamburger left. So this is mine. Here is your dollar.” the boy answers.

Jack is a school boy. He doesn’t like going to school. He always wants to have more holidays. One day he makes a telephone call to his teacher and says in a voice. The voice sounds like his father’s. “I am sorry to say that Jack is ill in bed. He won’t go to school for three or four days.” “Oh,” says the teacher, “I’m sorry to hear that, but I want to know who is speaking.” “My father, sir.” says Jack. The teacher gets very angry.

I’m Lily. I often go to the zoo on the weekend. There are many animals in the zoo. The monkeys are so funny! They can dance! The parrots(鹦鹉) can speak English! There is a big lake in the zoo. There are many fish in the lake. We often have lunch near the zoo. My favourite food is chicken. My favourite drink is milk.

Tom lives in a big house in Shandong. His mother is a writer. She often writes stories. She likes playing the violin. She goes to work on foot every day. Tom’s father is a scientist. He works at a university. He likes making robots. He goes to work by car. Wu Yue is Tom’s sister. She is a pretty girl. She likes playing the piano. She goes to school by subway. Tom never(从不) plays the piano. He likes swimming. He goes to school by bike. On the weekend, Tom and his sister often play football. They’re very happy.

Do you often use plastic straws(塑料吸管)? You may use them to drink a lot of things, such as cola, juice or milk.

Most people throw their straws away after using them. Americans throw away 390 million plastic straws every day.

A lot of these straws go into the ocean. This is very bad for the ocean. Some animals eat them. They get sick. They can even die from this.

Some countries are trying to deal with this problem. The US and the UK both plan not to let people use plastic straws.
