Every day we eat a lot of food. A healthy diet is good for us. But people in different countries eat different kinds of food. My friend Peter is from America and he tells me a lot about food in America. Most Chinese people like to eat pork(猪肉). But in America beef(牛肉) is more popular(受欢迎). We often have rice or noodles at every meal. But Americans may think hamburgers and fruit pies are more delicious(美味). Chinese children like to eat ice creams in summer. But Americans nearly eat them every meal. Americans like sweet food very much, just like cakes, ice creams, chocolate and so on.

The Earth is sick

The stars we see at night are really huge like our sun, but they are much farther away in space. Some of them have planets(行星)like our earth travelling around them.

The stars are so hot that they give off great light and heat--more than the hottest, brightest fire you can imagine(想象). As we all know, light travels at the speed of 300, 000 kilometres per second. But the stars are so far away that their lights still take years to reach us. The light we see coming from some far-off stars started for the earth more than a hundred years ago.

The moon is a ball of cold rock. It is smaller than the earth. It circles round(环绕)the earth as the earth circles round the sun. The whole journey(旅程)of the moon round the earth takes twenty-eight days. We see it changing from new moon to half to full and back to new moon every twenty-eight days. Our word "month" comes from the word "moon".

In the morning, Mr. Brown goes to work and the children go to school. Their father takes them to school every day.

Mrs. Brown stays at home every day. She does the housework. She always eats her lunch at noon. In the afternoon, she usually sees her friends. They often drink tea together.

In the evening, the children come home from school. They arrive home early. Mr. Brown comes home from work. He arrives home late.

At night, the children always do their homework. Then they go to bed. Mr. Brown usually reads his newspaper, but sometimes he and his wife watch television.

Mrs. Brown is very fat. She has a lot of health problems. Her husband (丈夫) and she go to see the doctor. Her doctor says to her, "Don't eat meat and cakes." Her husband says, "I am going to make her stop eating them, doctor." The next morning Mrs. Brown buys a can of meat and her husband eats half (一半) of it. Then he leaves home to work. Mrs. Brown cuts (切) a very small piece of it and eats it. It is very good. She cuts a big piece of and eats it. Ten minutes later she eats it all.

"My husband will be angry. What shall I do?" she thinks. She buys another (另一个) can of meat very quickly.

She eats half of that and leaves half on the table. Her husband comes back later and he sees the half meat on the table. He is very happy.
