On May Day, there was a very big car show in our city. Many people went to see it. My parents and I went there, too. My father wanted to buy a car, so he could drive me to school in the morning and pick me up after school. There were hundreds of different kinds of cars there. My mother liked “Buick”. My father liked “Bens”. I thought “Buick” cars were not as good as “Bens”, but Bens cars were too expensive. At last, they both agreed to my idea to buy a “Nissan”. It is good but not so expensive. We were very happy, because at weekends, we could often drive to visit my grandparents in the countryside.

My name is Tom. I have a new friend. Her name’ is Mary. She has big eyes and a small mouth. She has orange glasses and her shoes are orange. We have a new classroom. It’s very big. The teacher’s desk is big and yellow. The black computer is on it. The fans are on the wall. An English book, a notebook and two storybooks are on my desk.

How are you? I’m fine in China. I’m going to tell you something about my life here. I study in Shanghai. I live near the school. So I can go to school on foot. But I often come by bike. I think it’s fun and that’s good exercise, too. My father works in a library here. I often read books in the library on Saturday afternoon. I have a new friend here. His name is Li Lei. He is in Beijing now. I’m going to visit him next weekend. Beijing is a big city. There are many interesting places there. We are going to visit the Great Wall and the Palace Museum. Aunt Wang is ill. She is in the People’s Hospital. Tony’s mother tells Tony to take a basket of eggs to Aunt Wang. But Tony doesn’t know the way.

On the way Tony sees and old man. The old man walks in front of him. He goes up and says, “Hi, old fellow...” But the old man doesn’t answer him and walks on.

Tony gets puzzled (困惑的). Suddenly he understands (理解) why. It is not polite (有礼貌的) to say “old fellow” to an old man. Now he goes up to the old man again and asks, “Excuse me, Grandpa. Would you please tell me the way to the People’s Hospital?” This time the old man answers. “Well, go along this street, and then turn left. It’s just behind the post office.”

Bangkok is the capital (首都) of Thailand. It is very different from Guangzhou. There are many temples (寺庙) in Bangkok. It is hot all year round, so there are a lot of fruits. The most (最) famous fruit is durian (榴莲). There are many rivers in the city, so the market on the water is very famous. You can buy flowers, vegetables, fruits and other things on the boats.

The best time to visit Thailand is at the beginning of April, because it has the most important festival in Thailand—the Water Festival. It is the beginning of their New Year. Before the festival, people clean their house and cook nice food. During the festival, people sing, dance and throw water on each other. They think that water can clean away bad things and bring good luck. How interesting it is!
