My name is Li Ming. I'm from China. I'm a Chinese boy. I live in a big city. We have spring, summer, autumn and winter here. I like spring best. It's windy and warm. We can fly kites in spring. It's the best time to plant trees, too. I don't like summer. It's too hot. I always go swimming. In winter it never snows in our city. So it's not very cold.

It's a nice day today. The sun is shining(照耀)and the birds are singing. People are busy on the street. Drivers are driving their cars. Some people are waiting for buses. Some are crossing the street. A policeman is standing there. Some old people are going shopping. They want to buy some food. Two girls are looking at the flowers and a beautiful woman is having a walk with her dog. Some children are eating hamburgers in KFC. They are talking. They look very happy.

Most of the time, magicians(魔术师)give good shows, but every magician has given a show that was terrible or has tried to do a trick that didn’t go right. Howard Thruston, a famous magician, made some interesting mistakes on the stage.Thurston did a famous Indian trick with a girl. The girl climbed into a box. Then the box was pulled up above the stage. Thurston shouted, “Iasia, garawallah, go!” The box opened and the girl was gone. “Wonderful! Wonderful!”

It's Sunday today. My friends and I are playing in the park. Look! Henry is riding a bike. Joy is flying a kite. Andy and Sam are rowing a boat in the lake. Some boys are playing football. Some girls are singing and dancing. What am I doing? I'm playing badminton with Lily. We are all happy.

He likes skating. So he is going to Canada. It’s winter there now. He can skate all day. He has winter clothes and new ice skates.

New York has a short history of about three hundred years. In 1626, the Dutch settlers “bought” Manhattan Island from the Indians. They “paid” them several pieces of bright cloth, diamond-like stones and other things worth(价值) about twenty-four dollars. Then in 1664 the English came. The Dutch settlers were defeated without a real fight. Then the place was renamed New York. The city’s development was rather slow under the English. It speeded up to a certain degree in the 19th century. The New York of today came into shape only within the last century.

If there is one thing that has made New York famous, it is its tall buildings. Manhattan is about 12 miles by 1.5 miles at its widest part. This might be the reason why the city has grown upwards, instead of outwards. It is an exciting experience just to walk down a New York street. The buildings rise straight into the blue sky on either side. It makes one feel as though he were walking through a deep valley. The Empire State Building has 103 storeys. For many years it had been the tallest in the city, but now it has been topped by another taller building-the World Trade Centre, which has 82 storeys. New York at night loses its hard character during the day. On the quiet waters is casting(投射) a dark outline of the Statue of Liberty under the pale moonlight. Across the Hudson and East Rivers are the Manhattan bridges with their strings of lights. There are millions of colourful lights rising higher and higher to the top of the buildings, which are like the crown of the queen of American cities. Although New York is neither the capital of the United States, nor even the capital of New York State, it is one of the most famous cities in the world!

This is Jim’s bedroom. It’s new and nice. A bed and a chair are in it. A desk is on the floor. Some flowers are on it. A bookshelf is behind the bed. Some English books are on the bookshelf. A picture is on the wall. Some people are in the picture, the man is his father. The woman is his mother. Who is the boy? Do you know?

Helen Keller lived in the USA. When she was a baby, she got very sick. After she was better, she couldn’t see and hear well. A few years later, things got worse. There was no way for Helen to speak to other people. She saw nothing. She heard nothing. She didn’t understand anything.

One day a teacher came to live with Helen and her family. The teacher helped Helen learn about words. Helen was such a bright girl that she could spell her first word soon. When she was older, she went to college.

Helen became very famous later. She travelled around the world and helped many blind and deaf people. The world remembers her as a brave and wonderful person. She was blind and deaf, but she found a way to see and hear.
