Once, a fox fell into a well when he was trying to reach water to drink. He tried and tried to escape, but it was all in vain(白费力气). He could not get out of the well because it was too deep.
After some time, a horse came along. Seeing the fox down the well, he asked him the reason for his fall. “I am enjoying the cool, pure water,” replied the fox. “Wouldn't you like to jump in and taste it?” Without a second thought, the foolish horse jumped down the well. The moment he reached the bottom, the fox jumped onto his back and went to the top. Looking down at the unhappy horse, the fox laughed and said, “My dear friend, next time, be sure to look before you leap(跳跃).”
