Maria has a brother and a sister. After school they often share the chores (杂务).
One day, they saw this note on the table: Maria, please sweep the floor and weed (除草) the garden. Matilde, please wash the dishes and feed the dog. Daniel, please mow (修剪) the lawn (草坪) and make your bed. All of you, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! We are at the grocery store (杂货店). —Mother and Father.
Maria looked at Matilde. Matilde looked at Daniel. Daniel looked at his sisters.
“I want to play the piano!” Maria said.
“I want to play football!” Daniel said. “Can you mow the lawn for me, Matilde?”
“Listen to you!” Matilde said. “I want to read my storybook. You spend (花费) all your time playing games. And I always have all the hard chores!”
“I often clean the table and wash the dishes,” said Daniel.
“But you always break a dish,” said Matilde. “I help cook supper.”
“And you always burn (烧糊) the soup!” said Maria. They talked and talked. No one did any chores.
“Did you finish your chores?” asked Mother. “We are going to beach when you do!” The three children looked at each other. Then, they all ran to do their chores.
