I am Wang Lin. I am twelve years old. My pen pal Tom is from the United States. He is the same age as I. He is a middle school student in Beijing. There are three people in his family. His father is a teacher. He teaches English in a high school in Beijing. His mother is an English teacher too. But they work in different schools. Tom goes to school in his mother's car every day. They all like Chinese food. Tom's father likes Guangdong food. He thinks it is delicious. Tom's mother's favorite food is Sichuan food. But Tom doesn't like Sichuan food. He thinks it is too hot. They often eat out at the weekend.

Mary is from Canada. She teaches English in China now. She knows a little Chinese. She isn't free from Monday to Friday. So she often goes shopping on Saturday. Today is Saturday. Mary goes to the shop. She comes out of her car and goes into the shop. “What can I do for you?” the girl in the shop asks her in Chinese. Mary thinks she can tell the boy what she wants in Chinese. So she says in Chinese, “A quilt (被子), please.” Then the girl goes to the back of the shop. “My Chinese is not bad. The girl understands (理解) me.” She thinks. Mary is happy. Soon (不久) the girl comes back. She shows Mary a cup.

Yesterday was Saturday, Zara got up at seven o'clock. But it was raining, and she couldn’t go out to play, she felt bored. She helped her mum make a cake. After that she was hungry. She ate the cake with mum. That’s delicious. She was very thirsty, so she drank some water. Then the rain stopped. Zara went out to play, she was very happy.

Today is Mother’s Day(母亲节). Dabing wants to buy something for his mother. What does he buy? He doesn’t buy a card or a book as usual(通常地). And he doesn’t buy a rose because his father often buys it for his mother. Look! He buys a CD-ROM. He says it can help mother learn English.

In England people usually don't talk very much. On a bus or a train, you can see everyone sits there looking out of the window. And they don't talk much. When you meet English people, they often talk about one thing — the weather. So when you meet someone in England, you can say “It's fine today, isn't it?”

“But it was a little cold yesterday.” He may answer.

“Oh, it will be warmer later!” you can say. Talk like this, and the English will think, “How friendly you are!”

What animals do you like? Bears, dogs or sheep? I like pandas. They are from China. In the zoo, I can see three pandas: a mother panda, a father panda and a baby panda. They are beautiful. They have black eyes, white face, black ears and fat body. They wear black and white coat all the time. They like eating green bamboo. The mother panda likes to lie on the grass, the baby panda likes to roll (滚动) on the grass, and the father panda likes to play with his son. How cute they are!

I have a friend. He is Jack. He is eleven years old. He is in primary school. He likes eating hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream. He eats them every day. He doesn't like vegetables or fruit. He eats tomatoes once a week. He goes to school from Monday to Friday. He likes English and maths. He doesn't like PE. He never plays sports. On weekends, he often stays at home. He does his homework and watches TV. He likes watching cartoons on TV. He also often plays on a mobile phone(手机). I don't think he is healthy or strong.
