Elephants are big. The elephant has got a long nose. It's about two metres long. They have got big ears. They don't like sleeping. And they only sleep for three hours at night. Elephants love water and they use their nose to play with water. Elephants eat plants（植物）and a little fruit, but they don't eat meat.

Tigers are very big animals. They also like water and are good at swimming. Tigers sleep for fifteen hours at night. They are strong and catch other animals for food.

An old woman lives in a village. She has three sons. They are Jim, Joe and Brad. They leave home to make monkey and become rich soon. This year, they come back on Mother’s Day. Everyone has a present for their mum. Jim buys a big house. Joe buys a car. Brad’s present is a parrot(鹦鹉).

After some days, the old woman writes letters to her son.

“The house is big. I live in one room(房间). But I have to(不得不) clean the whole(整个的) house.” She writes to Jim. “I am too old. I can’t travel far away. So I don’t use the car.” She writes to Joe. I like your present very much. It can speak to me every day. I am not lonely. Thanks.” She writes to Brad.

I am Yaya. I am eleven years old. I live in Shanghai with my parents now. Amy is my good friend. She’s eleven too. We are classmates(同班同学). We often go running in the playground after school. But we never go home together, because my house is in the east and Amy’s house is in the west. I like collecting stamps. Amy likes collecting dolls. I can write stories in Chinese. Amy can sing English songs.

This is our school library. It opens at 8:00 in the morning and closes at 5:30 in the afternoon. It isn’t very big. Only two librarians work there. We can find all kinds of books there. But few of them are in English.

When we borrow books, we must obey the library rules. There is a reading room in the library. It’s clean and bright. We can read magazines and newspapers there. But we can’t take any of them out.

Peter wants to visit Shanghai. Grandpa tells him something about Shanghai. Shanghai is a famous city. It’s in the east of China. It’s got about seventeen million people. People like walking along the Bund (外滩). There are many old buildings there. In the evening, there are some ships on the Huangpu River. There is an interesting garden in Shanghai. It’s Yu Garden. There are many shops near the Garden. People can buy some presents there. The Shanghai Museum is very famous. You can see many old artworks (艺术品) in it.

The air is usually dirty in winter. Smog (雾霾) makes the air dirty. We can find smog in many cities. Smog becomes a big problem in China. We cannot see clearly in the heavy smog. Sometimes, we cannot drive either. Smog is harmful (有害的). It makes people ill. Old people have to stay at home. Children cannot play in the playground. They have to stay in their classrooms. Sometimes they cannot go to school. Where does smog come from? Many people think smog comes from coal. In the winter, factories and homes use lots of coal. Some people think smog comes from cars. What should we do if (如果) there is smog? We should stay at home and not go outside (外出).

I'm Sam. I've got a pen friend. His name is Li Ming. He's from Wuhan, China. We both like reading books. He gave me some stamps with famous Chinese people on them. He also told me something about them. Li Ming's hobby is collecting coins(硬币), so I sent him some from Russia. I told him many stories about my country Russia.

In 2019, I went to China and met Li Ming. He took me to visit many famous places, such as the Yellow Crane Tower and the Yangtze River. Wuhan is a beautiful and wonderful city.

John lives in a new house. There is a small garden near his house. He likes playing in a river. But there isn't a river near his new house. He is not happy.

One morning, his mother says, "There is a beautiful park near here, and there is a pool in it. We can go there in the afternoon." John is very happy.

After lunch, John and his mother go to the park, and he plays in the pool. His mother is watching him under a tree.

The Smart family are looking at a map of China. They want to visit many places during their winter holiday. Mr Smart wants to visit Tibet. He wants to climb the mountains and ride a horse. Ms Smart wants to go to Hong Kong. She wants to go shopping. Amy wants to go to Harbin. She wants to see the beautiful snow and she wants to skate. Sam wants to go to Guilin. He likes the mountains and stones. He wants to row a boat. Tom wants to stay at home and play computer games.

I'm Mingming. I've got a new friend. His name is Jack. He is a handsome boy. He likes to play ball games. And he has lots of hobbies. But his favourite hobby is collecting stamps. He has many kinds of stamps. Some are from England; some are from America; some are from Canada. And he sends some to me. I send some Chinese stamps to him. We have the same hobby.
