Early Years of Deng Jiaxian

The great scientist Deng Jiaxian (1924-1986) is often called the father of Chineseatomic (原子的,原子能的) science. During his life, he helped China to become a stronger and safer country. Deng was born in Anhui on June 25, 1924. As a child, his dad wanted Deng to study science to help China become stronger someday, and Deng studied hard and went to university (大学).

Deng became a teacher in 1945. In 1948, he went to America to study. The study usually takes four or more years. But Deng worked hard and did it in about two years. He was the youngest person in his class, so they called him the"Baby Doctor (博士)".
