A lion was sleeping at home. A mouse (老鼠) ran across his face and woke him up .The lion was angry , he caught the mouse with his (抓子), and wanted to kill (杀死) him. The mouse was terrified (害怕的) and begged the lion to spare (饶恕) him. “Please let me go. Please let me go,” he cried. “And one day I will repay (报答) you for your kindness.” The idea (想法) of so small an animal can do something for him made the lion laugh aloud , and he let the mouse go .
But the mouse’s chance (机会) came. One day the lion got tangled (纠缠) in a net (陷井) that had been spread (铺) by some hunters (猎人). The lion roared (咆哮) in anger(愤怒), and the mouse heard him. He ran to the net and began to work. He gnawed (咬) the ropes (绳子) with his teeth (牙齿), then the lion was free (自由). “There!” said the mouse. “You laughed at me when I promised (承诺) that I would repay you. Now you see that a small mouse can help a big lion.”
