Wall Street is a famous street in New York. It got its name from a wooden wall. The site of the wooden wall is that of the street now.

The people coming from Holland(荷兰) built the wall in the 1600s. They named the wall New Amsterdam. The American Indians were not always friends of the Dutch, nor were the English. So the Dutch built the wooden wall to protect themselves.

The wall isn’t there now. But Wall Street reminds the people of the Dutch of New York.

Traffic lights are the same in every country. There are always three lights: red, yellow and green. Red means "stop" . Yellow means "wait" and green means "go" . In China, drivers drive on the right side of the road. In the US, drivers drive on the right side too. In England and Australia, however, drivers drive on the left side of the road. If you go by car, by bike or on foot, you must know the traffic rules.

Buckingham Palace (白金汉宫) is in London, England. It was built around 1705. It’s famous because Queen Elizabeth (伊丽莎白女王) of England lives there.

Buckingham Palace is a big and beautiful building. Queen Elizabeth and her family live on the second floor. The queen also has her office at the palace.

Buckingham Palace is like a small town. The palace is about 600 rooms. About 400 people work there. Two people take care of the clocks. There are 300 clocks in Buckingham Palace!

Queen Elizabeth’s day starts at 7:00 in the morning. At 8:30 every morning, the queen has breakfast with her family. Then she works in her office all morning. After lunch, she visits hospitals, schools, or new buildings in the country.

People visit the rooms in Buckingham Palace in August and September. There are wonderful things to see.

Walk straight along the West Lake Avenue until you see a supermarket. Turn left and go straight on, and you'll pass a train station. Then turn right. Go straight and you will see a park in front of you. Go through the park and turn left. After you pass a bookshop, you will see the cinema. It's next to the bookshop. You can't miss it.

Wang Peng is twelve. Wang Ming is Wang Peng’s brother. He’s seven. He likes playing with water. His water gun is his favorite toy.One day, Wang Peng is watching TV. His brother is playing with his water gun. The TV show is about a village in Yunnan. Wang Peng invites Wang Ming to watch the show together. The TV reporter sees a young man holding a bucket(桶)of water. There is a lot of dust on his face. The TV reporter asks,”Why not wash your face with the water?” The young man says,”It’s for drinking. I can’t wash my face with it. Usually we wash our face with rain. But it hasn’t rained for six months. We use our water again and again.” Wang Ming’s face turns red. He puts his water gun in his toy box and says,”Goodbye, my friend!”

I'm Bob. I live near the library. It isn't big. But there are lots of books in it. I like reading books. So I often walk to the library at the weekend. There are many people in it every day. They all like reading books. If you want to borrow books, you should show your library card and bring back the books in two weeks.
